maharishi Presents New "An Exploration of Industrial Workwear" Collection
Hardy Blechman’s maharishi has just presented its latest collection for Fall/Winter 2023 and it takes inspiration from the utility and solid construction of industrial workwear over the last 500 years.
Titled “An Exploration of Industrial Workwear,” the collection employs a pacifist approach to military design ethos, a similar approach seen in previous collections from maharishi, such as “Battle Royale,” “The Art of the Invisible Warrior,” and its military print-inspired capsule for Fall/Winter 2022.
However, this latest collection from maharishi focuses on the uniforms of firefighters and harnessed construction workers from Japan, U.S.A, and England. Key fabrications in the collection come in the form of Pearl Weave Cotton — this is based on those used in early Japanese fire-fighter kimonos, while artworks from ukiyo-e masters, Kuniteru and Kuniyoshi, serve as decoration for outerwear lining.
Workwear remains a key cornerstone in maharishi’s latest collection, with new styles interpreted with Japanese Cordura NYCO twill and ripstop, a rugged yet lightweight cloth that was originally developed for military combat uniforms. Rounding things off, the introduction of waterproof fleece from a French mill, Aplex, and Hi-Vis flight nylon is used to juxtapose the eastern-inspired asymmetric closures.
You can take a closer look at the new collection from maharishi above and it is available to shop via the brand’s official website now, while it will also be available in maharshi’s London and New York flagship stores soon.
