Oregon man arrested for trying to steal tactical gear from Lynden border crossing
LYNDEN, Wash. – We have an update to our report about a person who was caught stealing ammunition and other expensive items from the Lynden Border crossing.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded Monday, August 28th, to a call about a suspicious person wearing a U.S. Border Protection uniform and carrying automatic weapon ammunition.
The suspect, 30-year-old Austin Giger of Tigard, Oregon, was found to have stolen a number of Border Patrol items from a secured administration building.
The items were worth thousands of dollars and included two ballistic vests, a jacket, a radio, pepper spray, ammunition and an ammunition magazine.
He claimed to be a border agent when confronted by deputies and faces a criminal impersonation charge in additon to theft and burglary charges.
